Adidas Originals Commercial (Starring Snoop Dogg, Big Sean, Odd Future / Dwight Howard)
In the above linked video commercial, a star studded cast of urban style enthusiasts is showcased rocking adidas brand shoes. The director shows these celebrities to convince the viewer that all fly celebrities wear the adidas brand shoes. This utilizes ethos by creating a bandwagoning effect. This is true because without the credibility of these individuals in this advertizement, the purpose would be almost entirely gone. The director also utilizes pathos by showing how fun it is to be involved with these celbrities and their adidas'. The raw emotions of joy and happiness while enjoying the spotlight are prevalent in the entire duration of the ad. Also, the bright colors throughout create an overwhelmingly hyped sensation. Overall, I'd say this is a great ad that utilizes pathos and ethos to the capacity.
I agree with you in that this is a good ad that advertises the brand, however I think it is only directed toward a certain audience. That audience being teenagers and young adults. I believe that if you were to show this commercial to an older audience, they would not get the same "wow factor" effect and they would more than likely not be interested, or even disturbed, by the showy nature of this video. You could even go as far as saying that this commercial is directed towards male viewers, because most women are not interested in seeing the women dancing around. Also, Snoop Dogg is not as credible to women as he is to men because he tends to be derogatory towards women in his songs.
